How to prep and prime skin like a pro!

Prepping your skin before makeup application is important because it affects how your makeup looks. French Makeup Artist, Charlotte Ravet shares her tips to achieve the perfect makeup base.

How to prep and prime skin like a pro! - French Beauty Co.

Skin prep is a makeup artist's secret weapon! Like an art canvas, well prepared skin is the key to long-lasting and beautiful makeup. How do we accomplish this?

Firstly, let's define a perfectly prepped skin:

  • Hydrated skin, including the eye contour
  • No dead skin cells or dry patches and excess debris on the face
  • The excess sebum or oil is controlled
  • Lips are plump and moisturised

Before applying anything, makeup should be completely removed. Use a micellar water for oily and normal skin and a cleansing milk for dry and sensitive skin. To complete the cleansing step and purify the skin further, a gentle toner can be applied. To prep the eyes, apply Artist's Secret Radiant Eye to immediately brighten and moisturise the orbital zone, or area around the eyes. For an extra cooling effect, store the product in the fridge before use.

Understanding your skin type is crucial to optimally prepare the skin…

  • Normal
  • Oily
  • Dry
  • Sensitive
  • Combination

Normal skin:

What does normal skin type look like?

  • Skin is not dry or oily
  • Skin feels soft and smooth
  • Skin texture is even
  • Skin has no blemishes

Products to use:
It is still important to look after normal skin, even if there are no obvious issues! Prepare the skin with a lightweight hydrating serum that easily absorbs and leave a supple result.

Before applying any foundation, use Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre to lock in moisture. Formulated with beeswax, soy protein, aloe vera, and glycerin, it helps the foundation blend seamlessly.

Oily skin:

What does an oily skin type look like?

  • Skin has enlarged pores
  • Skin is usually thick and ages better
  • Skin might appear oily in the T-zone
  • Skin is prone to blemishes or pimples

Oily skin still requires hydration. Too many astringent products can have the reverse effect and cause the skin to become more inflamed. A lightweight hydrating serum and a mattifying primer are recommended. Embryolisse Hydra-Matt emulsion provides the perfect hydration whilst controlling excess sebum.

Dry skin:

What does a dry skin type look like?

  • Dry skin lacks oil and water
  • Skin can present dry patches
  • Skin might be papery to the touch
  • Fine lines around the eyes and lips may appear faster

Dry skin needs moisture and hydration! Use Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre as a moisturising flash mask, applied in a thick layer. Remove after 10 minutes and follow with Embryolisse Filaderme, a rich emulsion to restore the lipid content (oil) in the skin, protect the skin barrier and soothe dryness.

Sensitive skin:

What does a sensitive skin type look like?

  • Skin that is sensitive appears red when touched
  • Sensitive skin reacts easily to fragrance
  • Sensitive skin may feel warm to the touch
  • Sensitive skin might feel tight after cleansing

If you suffer with skin sensitivity, your best primer is Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre Sensitive, which is an extremely gentle formula without fragrance.

Combination skin:

What does combination skin type look like?

  • Skin might appear shiny in the T-zone
  • Cheeks, jaws and hairline can present dry patches
  • Skin might have pimples and blackheads

A universal product such as the OG Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre is the ideal choice for combination skins as it is suitable for all skin types. If the skin still presents excess oil on the T-zone, use Embryolisse Hydra-Mat on the T-Zone and Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre on the cheeks.

A long-lasting makeup will also require little touch-ups throughout the day! Refreshing your makeup with the floral waters of Embryolisse Eau de Beauté is always ‘une bonne idée!’
